R&D Project Sourcing
PWA has extensive experience in identification of funding opportunities in the US for University faculty groups and corporations. Our corporate offices are conveniently located near the US National Institutes of Health, HHS, FDA and the National Science Foundation. We maintain an exclusive database of private foundations and associations across the US that provide monies for research on specific diseases and other health matters. We identify project opportunities, give briefings to client principal investigators on important deliverable dates, including Letters of Intent, which we help prepare along with funding applications, and monitor the application process.

US Market Entry
PWA has assisted numerous European SME life science product and service companies with their strategic marketing plans for the US. Services included: review of business plans, editing of websites, competitor profiling, identification of technology and sales partners, licensees and attorneys for FDA filings, and preparation of marketing materials including power-point presentations and proposal writing. Asset Characterization Studies
Awarded contract financed by the US Department of State through the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) (www.istc.ru) in Moscow, Russia to evaluate and compile detailed profiles of 13 former Bioweapons research institutes in Russia. This evaluation involves assessment of intellectual property, identification of research expertise for drug discovery and development, administrative structure and opportunities for collaboration with private industry unique to each institute in order to help the institutes become self-sustaining. Conducted asset characterization study of pre-eminent faculty groups at Helsinki University (HU) and the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), among other academic centers with life science programs directed toward the drug discovery needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

Evaluated American universities on behalf of the Finnish government to select a partner with the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT); facilitated the signing of a collaborative agreement between HUT and the University of Maryland to develop an MS Degree program for IT distance learning

| Strategic Investment Location Studies
On behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce (BISNIS) ( www.bisnis.doc.gov), PWA assisted with organization of a "tripartite" initiative involving use of Finnish distributors/warehousers Tamro, Onninen and Kukomarkkinat to help US exporters sell goods to Russia, maximizing the advantages of the common border shared by Russia and Finland.
On behalf of the International Foundation of Technology and Investment (IFTI), Moscow, Russia, PWA conducted international market study identifying potential clients among the corporate, academic, donor agencies and other non-governmental sectors.
Acted as strategic business development advisor for the Center for Biotechnology and Gene Technology at Tallinn Technical University, Talinn, Estonia (www.ttu.ee/biogen), evaluating funding resources to expand the Center into a new science park and incubator for start-up companies, introducing potential partners for the design of facilities and park infrastructure and consulting on joint venture opportunities between the U.S. and Scandinavia.
Identified strategic resources for biotechnology instrumentation companies in the Jena region of Thuringia, Germany for the BioRegio competition, resulting in an award to the region by the Federal Government from among 16 German States.
On behalf of Finn-Medi of Tampere, Finland, completed asset characterization of its academic medicine programs and resources, specifically tissue engineering, cell technologies and biomaterials.
Developed strategic recruitment plan for Sago Science Park near Potsdam, Germany, maximizing the value to potential investors of the anchor tenant, the Federal Biological Research Center for Forestry and Agriculture.
Conducted a study for the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth, Ontario, Canada to assess the feasibility of establishing a life science park in that location.
On behalf of the Soviet Ministry of Health, developed marketing plan to attract international companies to locate facilities in Russia.
